When Las Vegas resident and novelist, Brianna Meyer, contacted Schiel & Denver Book Publishers to discuss an exciting manuscript aimed at college women and written under an ‘anonymous’ pseudonym, we were intrigued and assigned a book publishing consultant to learn more about her book. It was a good decision. The eponymously named novel, Facebook Love, which is an imaginative and fun loving adventure through a college student’s sexy facebook wall, was wonderfully received at the Texas Library Association fair from April 14th-16th 2010 in San Antonio, Texas.

With all the hype surrounding ebooks, ipads and internet gadgets, some in the U.S. and UK media have been suggesting whether the days of the book publishing industry might be numbered. But that’s simply not true.

In Dorling Kindersley’s thought provoking video ‘The Future of Publishing Reversed‘, the educational imprint of Penguin Books provides the answer that most people in the publishing industry have known for the last ten years: that the internet, in it’s expanding power, is not at all going to kill book publishing. It will surely give the industry its future.

As more and more traditional publishers and distributors turn away from the wasteful old methods of cutting forests down for profit, and recognize the benefits of the print on demand model (which coincidentally gives a voice to millions of independent authors who would otherside be excluded), the digital age will continue to transform book publishing into a more accessible world.
